Autumn - Class of 2021 {Chicago, IL and Port Washington, WI high school senior session}

I will be the first to admit that this pandemic has made me cry almost on-the-daily, but when I stop and think about how I haven’t had any of my own big life plans completely uprooted by it, I feel bad for feeling sad when so many others have had it worse. All of the people who had planned on getting married this year, all the babies born whose moms weren’t able to have the newborn photos they’d dreamt of. And high school seniors not getting to walk down that aisle for the biggest accomplishment they’d worked their entire lives thus far for. I live by Lane Tech High School here in Chicago, and happened to be walking by the school on the day of their drive-through graduation ceremony this summer. I’m so thankful I was wearing sunglasses and a mask so that the students and families I was passing couldn’t see my blubbery face behind it. They were still all smiles and so happy, and said Thank You when I would tell them Congratulations, but my heart was sad for them but also happy that they were still celebrating in this very strange way. I was proud of them and didn’t know a single one of them! It’s not at all the graduation they had planned, but they were making the most of it. This year is a doozy, folks. Oof.

I feel for all the students right now. And all the teachers. All of the unknowns are scary. Whether it be in-person or e-learning, this year is not going to be easy for anyone. I can only hope that the class of 2021 will get to have their graduation ceremonies by then.

I got to spend two afternoons in two different cities recently with this lovely grad-to-be! Autumn is the youngest of my 15 cousins and I was in my early 20’s and not living at home anymore when she was born. So I didn’t really see her except at Christmas time and I didn’t really know her that well. But I’m so glad I got to photograph her senior photos and really get the chance to know more about her. She loves reading and is an incredible bowler on the bowling team & she’s so excited for college! We spent an afternoon exploring ALL over Chicago - West Loop, Union Station, Lincoln Park Zoo Nature Boardwalk, Old Town and Bucktown. We found all the great murals! I’ve been dying to photograph at the “Make No Little Plans” mural and the “You Are Beautiful” Chicago sticker mural for forever and we made it happen! A few days later I went to her favorite town in Wisconsin - Port Washington. Being a Wisconsin native, this was shockingly my first time in Port and it surprised me! The little downtown area is adorable and the marina is beautiful. We were there just in time for some sunset photos and it did not disappoint! Best of luck to you on your final year of high school, sweet Autumn :)

Here are just a few of my favorites from Autumn’s session!

Favorite Moments of 2017 - Year in Review

2017 was an amazing year for me and I'm so grateful for all of you for trusting me with your most precious/intimate/honest/real moments. I love what I do. For real. I get to document some of the most meaningful moments in people's lives. As well as the more "everyday moments" but I love every second of it. I like to do an end-of-year website update so I go through all of my sessions from the year and pick my favorites. It helps me see how far I've come, and how much I've grown. This year, I got out of my comfort zone. I took chances. I pushed myself to photograph from my heart; to photograph what spoke to me and to tell more honest stories. In addition to updating the website, I wanted to do a re-cap of the year, highlighting my favorite photos & moments but then this post got crazy long. If you know me, I couldn't narrow it down any further than what I've come up with and this isn't even all of it! So here goes. A selection of some of my favorite sessions, moments and personal treasures from all of last year. Druuuuuummmmmroooooooooolllllllllll, please.

I love love love love love LOVE so let's start with the beautiful couples!

Photographed my beautiful friend getting ready on her wedding morning on a steamy July morning in Chicago at the Langham Hotel

I second-shot with Jennifer of Angelic Angles Photography for a beautiful Milwaukee wedding. We photographed the wedding party at Villa Terrace Museum and I was BLOWN away by the beauty. I can't wait to go back there and photograph! I really miss shooting with Jennifer. We used to be the dream team when I lived in Madison. She's amazing - seriously, the best.

Second-shot with Melissa Ferrara of Iron & Honey Photography this fall. So much fun to work with a fellow Chicago photographer.

Babies! So many friends had babies this year!!

Boudoir - a few of the ones I can show!

I photographed a few events for PAWS. Also made some portraits of my friends' dogs while they were vacationing because I can't help myself!

High School Seniors

My Family. I went home a handful of times this summer for many birthdays! My sister and her littles did the Bubble Run so I took my camera for that. After that, it was Skyler's first birthday and then Avianna's SIXTH birthday. Squeezed in a quick shoot with all of my nieces with some goats... it didn't go as planned but we still got some beautiful photos!

Photographed all season long for Vintage Garage Chicago. If you're in Uptown Chicago on the third Sunday of the month from April through October, you must check them out. Must!

Grabbed some quick family photos for the best people on earth to celebrate them becoming a quartet!

Purposely took my camera down to the Loop a few times this summer. Normally I'm without it but made a point to take it, especially for the Chicagohenge

Much love friends! Thanks so much for following along - you have no idea how much it means. Here's to 2018 - I can't wait to see what comes!

xoxo - Courtney

Autumn - Class of 2018

Meet Autumn, one of the most kind and thoughtful seniors I've ever photographed. Oh, and she's stunning and has a smile that can light up a room! I photographed her brother two years ago and she was along for the ride that day and was already excited about her senior photos back then. I just knew we were going to have a blast for hers and she came prepared with balloons, bubbles, glitter and outfits galore! I had so much fun getting to know you, Autumn, and can't wait to hear what you do in the world. Best of luck, sweet girl!
